Lost Soul (Lupta Aatman)

Hello every one. At the outset, I would like to wish every one a great New Year. While I am at it, why not I wish every one a bright future and happy life. Now that I took care o f the formalities, let me dive right in to my meaningless musing. At first I wanted to write about happenings around me, my thoughts about world peace, my plans for life. Then I thought better of it and felt who will be interested in it (not that I think any one would be more interested in this rambling any way). I started wondering why I wanted to write, or for that matter why I do things I do. In general, why people do what they do? After long introspection I concluded that this is only a tip of the ice berg and is just a corollary to the fundamental question - what is the purpose of life? I heard some one say that God created life form. Why on earth (or any planet) did He/She do it? Assume for a second that I am a teacher. What is my purpose? Is it to educate people? Then what? Of Talent and Recognition

The other day I was watching the Oscars. I was amazed and ecstatic to see Slumdog Millionaire receive 8 awards out of 10 nominations (it won in 8 categories out of 9 categories nominated). I was overjoyed to see that a short documentary about a small Indian village girl with a cleft lip (Smile Pinky) also won an Oscar. I was amazed to learn that the only notable American to win an Oscar this year is Sean Penn. What a day for India. It is as if the world suddenly woke up and recognized that India has talent (or is it that the world suddenly recognized that UK directors make best Indian films?) What ever may be the case, suddenly India is in news all over the world for all the right reasons. And an Indian phrase (Jai Ho) found its way into most often used jargon in the world. I won’t be surprised if it crawls into Oxford dictionary pretty soon.
