Love and Hate

“I hate love”, that’s what people say who have not been very judicious about whom they love. It reminds me of what our elders said “apaathra daanam” (charity to undeserving person).

Love and hate are purely states of mind. If you hate love, that may be because you have a bitter experience. How did that happen? Did anyone force you to love? You chose to love some one stupid because you fell for their smile or a mere look. It is purely by your choice. Did you not enjoy the moments with your loved one while they lasted? So, what are you complaining about? Just believe in the fact that whatever happens, happens for your good. You enjoyed the moments you spent with that stupid person you were so in love with. The moment that person said, let us be just friends, you went into depression. Why don’t you think that you have the right person waiting for you and are to leave the current person so the right person can find you (or you can find the right person). In 1979, the great lyricist Acharya Athreya wrote

Thalapulu ennenno kalaluga kantaavu
Kallalu kaagaane kanneerauthavu

You imagine so many things
You go into depression when they remain just dreams
Instead why don’t you work on your dreams and ensure that they become true? Just dreaming isn’t enough; you need to work hard to make them true. You choose to love a person. It is in your hands now to make that person love you the same way you love this person. If you can’t, it just means that the reason why you love this person is completely different from the reason why that other person started loving you. And, once the difference comes to light, the other person started drifting away. May be it is for the good of both of you, so that both of you can find the right person, the person who loves for the same reason you love that person.

Now you chose to hate love. Isn’t it selfish and hypocritical? You loved some one for some stupid reason and you want that person to love you for the same reason. Don’t you think it is selfish of you to force this person to change his reasons for searching for love? And you don’t want to change your reasons for loving this person. Isn’t this hypocritical?

Isn’t it your choice to let the glass splinters cut your heart? If you want, you can stop the splinters from reaching the heart. You can heal the heart, learn from the past and prepare yourself, so you can recognize the right person the moment you come across that person.

My dear friend hate and love are too strong for a weak mind. Just remember, it’s all in your mind.

(Dedicated to all the people who hate to love and love to hate)
